a lunch tray victory!
Remember this post? LKSD recently voted to get rid of the styrofoam trays and go with “disposable, biodegradable, and compostable lunch trays are made from 100% “bagasse”. Bagasse is the residual sugarcane fiber remaining after extraction of juice from the sugarcane.” (quoting from the Delta Discovery, click here and scroll down to 4-29-09 article). So that’s good news, albeit about 20 years overdue.
In addition, Bethel City Council has completely banned all plastic sacks and styrofoam trays from local businesses. I know I’m sounding like a raving environmentalist, but if you could see the amount of plastic littering the tundra you would understand.
